Medical Device Excise Tax Moratorium for 2016 and 2017

On the Friday before Christmas (Dec 18th) Congress passed H.R.2029 - the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016. H.R.2029 contains a two year moratorium on the Medical Device Excise Tax for 2016 and 2017.

This means from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2017 that payers of the 2.3% medical device tax do not need to pay the tax. Hopefully during that time the Medical Device Excise Tax (MDET) moratorium will be extended or the tax can be repealed all together.

The MDET moratorium is contained in Section 174 of H.R. 2029. Click here to view the full text.
